MID PENN BANK DONATES $100,000 TO BASSER CENTER FOR BRCA AT PENN MEDICINE
Mid Penn Bank (the “Bank”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mid Penn Bancorp, Inc. (“Mid Penn”) (Nasdaq: MPB), is proud to announce its continued partnership with the Basser Center for BRCA at Penn Medicine (“Basser Center”) in Philadelphia. On October 3, Mid Penn Bank President and CEO Rory Ritrievi presented the organization with a $100,000 donation from funds raised by the 2023 Mid Penn Bank Celebrity Golf Classic, which took place in July.
“Approximately 1 in 200 people have a BRCA gene mutation, putting them at heightened risk for certain cancers. The Basser Center’s groundbreaking research is making progress toward detecting cancer early before it becomes life-threatening, or preventing it from developing at all,” Ritrievi said. “I could not be more proud to support the Basser Center’s mission and work.”
The Basser Center is the first comprehensive center for the research, treatment, and prevention of BRCA-related cancers. These hereditary mutations affect both women and men and can increase lifetime risks for cancers including breast, ovarian, pancreatic, prostate, and melanoma. The center’s unique model provides funding for collaborative research, education, and outreach programs around the world. The Basser Center has helped to accelerate progress for cancer research, including contributing to the development of FDA-approved targeted therapies for BRCA-related cancers.
“We are honored to have Mid Penn Bank as a partner in our fight against BRCA-related cancers. This gift will help us advance genetics research and allow carriers of BRCA mutations to live longer, healthier lives,” Basser Center Executive Director Susan Domchek, M.D. said. “We are truly grateful for Mid Penn Bank and its continued support.”
This is the second year that the Bank has raised money for the Basser Center through its annual Celebrity Golf Classic. This year, the fundraiser brought together more than 60 celebrities and sponsors passionate about raising awareness and advocating for increased funding for research, legislative advocacy, and high-quality screening, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer.
