Team Member Spotlight: Caroline Buto

 

What inspired you to pursue this career?

I’ve always loved working with people and solving problems. Early in my career, I helped customers find a way to simplify their finances and save for the future, and seeing the relief on their faces made me realize this was more than just a job. I knew I could make a difference.

Who has been your biggest career mentor or influence?

I remember we had a relationship liaison at the first bank I worked at. She taught me that success in banking isn’t just about numbers and meeting goals, it’s about building relationships by truly listening to clients, and I’ve carried that with me ever since.

What does a typical day look like for you?

No two days are exactly the same, but my routine has a rhythm. I start the day by reviewing reports and financial center performance and ensuring we’re on track with compliance requirements. Once the doors open, I’m balancing several priorities, like greeting clients, having huddles with my staff, coaching them on skills or goals, and stepping in to assist wherever needed. Between client appointments, I try to make time to mentor staff, celebrate successes and help troubleshoot challenges.

What skills do you think are most important for your role?

I believe success comes from blending leadership, operational know-how and a deep connection to the community. Building strong relationships with customers is at the heart of the role because trust and personalized service are what set us apart.

What’s one fact people might not know about you?

One fact people may not know about me is that before I began my career in banking, I was an elementary school teacher in Switzerland. It was an incredible experience that taught me patience, adaptability and how to connect with people from all backgrounds.
