Team Member Spotlight - Mike Sabo

Mike Sabo is the Financial Center Manager at our Bristol, PA location.

What did your career path look like before becoming a financial center manager?

I came to Mid Penn Bank as part of the merger with William Penn Bank, where I was the Director of Marketing. In that role I handled driving growth for the bank, strengthening the bank’s brand and brand management. I oversaw communications, public relations, community outreach and cross-functional collaboration between our executive team, our retail branches and external agencies to execute initiatives. In practice, it was a mix of big-picture strategy and constant execution, balancing growth targets with customer trust and regulatory compliance. Before I joined William Penn Bank in 2022, I owned a boutique marketing firm where we advised small businesses, government agencies, elected officials and nonprofit organizations in every aspect of marketing, communications and public relations.

What is your favorite part of your current role?

My favorite part of my new role as a Financial Center Manager is the satisfaction I feel when I, or a member of our team, can help solve a problem for one of our customers. Whether it’s a small business that is looking for a more efficient solution to increase profit margins, or a family looking to save money and plan for their future or retirement, it’s a great feeling knowing that developing these lasting relationships is making a real impact on their businesses, their lives and the community we serve.

You came from William Penn Bank, which merged with Mid Penn Bank. Since the merger, who has been your greatest influence or mentor from Mid Penn Bank?

This is a hard question because so many team members have been very influential on my journey. The culture at Mid Penn Bank fosters collaboration and true teamwork. I am currently participating in the Career Mentor Program and Scott Bostjancic is my mentor. Scott has been my North Star. He provides guidance and encouragement, has great advice when I reach out to him with any questions and is always willing to listen.

Share the best piece of advice you have received about working in banking.

The best piece of advice I’ve received about working in banking is to never forget that behind every account number is a person. It’s easy in this industry to focus on transactions, balances and bottom lines, but behind every account is someone’s livelihood, goals and trust. Keeping that perspective not only helps you make better decisions, but it also builds strong relationships and a reputation for integrity. In banking, technical skills really matter, but judgement, empathy, trust and the willingness to go the extra mile for your client are what set you apart.

Give us a fun fact about yourself that your colleagues might not know.

A few fun facts about me that most of my colleagues don’t know are that I am a nationally published photographer, my grandfather was a banker with Chase Manhattan Bank (now JPMorgan) and worked directly for David Rockefeller, and outside of the office I really enjoy cooking and cigars, it’s my way of tapping into a different kind of creativity.
