Team Member Spotlight: Roman Colon
Roman is a Commercial Loan Officer in our Greater Harrisburg Region.
Describe your path to success within Mid Penn Bank.
I trusted the process. I showed up with the right attitude, worked hard and made a conscious effort to learn as much as I could. I’ve been very fortunate to have great people around me who were willing to invest in my development.
My job was to make the most of the opportunities presented, keep improving and be ready for more responsibility when it came. I tried my best to do my part and MPB took care of me from there.
You were an honoree of the 2024 “20 in their 20’s” list by Harrisburg Young Professionals, what did that award mean to you and how has it shaped your path moving forward?
There are plenty of bright young professionals throughout Central Pennsylvania, so being recognized in a sea of talent was meaningful.
What stayed with me more than the recognition itself was the urge to stay involved in the region, specifically with Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP). In 2026, I joined the Board of Directors of HYP, which has helped me sharpen my leadership skills, better understand how organizations operate and work alongside talented individuals from different industries.
What are the most important skills for a Commercial Loan Officer?
Relationship building is at the top of the list.
We bank people and businesses, not projects. Before you can structure a deal or solve a problem, you have to understand the person across the table, how their business works, what they are trying to accomplish and what matters to them.
Then you have to execute.
That requires problem-solving, pattern recognition, communication and time management. Good lenders can take something complicated, quickly identify what matters and help move it toward a solution. Our clients want someone who they can trust, someone who understands their business and someone who gets things done. If you can consistently be that person, then you can consistently bring value.
Is there a project or accomplishment throughout your career that you are most proud of?
Tough question. I’d say whatever I accomplish next, and I hope that holds true in perpetuity. I’m a forward thinker by nature. I’m grateful for everything I’ve been fortunate enough to accomplish thus far, but I try to appreciate the moment and move forward. What excites me most is continuing to improve and seeing what kind of impact I can make over the course of a career.
How are you involved in your community and what does it mean to you?
I’ve been fortunate to work with several organizations doing meaningful work throughout Central PA. I serve on the Boards of Wildheart Ministries and its affiliated entity, Harrisburg Community Development Corporation, volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters and serve on the Board of HYP.
Each organization is different, but the common thread is service. I believe in servant leadership. If we all contribute where we can, use what we’ve been given well and love our neighbors, our communities improve. Simple equation.
Wildheart Ministries is especially meaningful to me. Their work is centered around reviving, rebuilding and restoring a community just minutes away from where I grew up. To go from a kid in these communities to now having an opportunity to impact those very same communities is something I don’t take for granted. The vision is ambitious and it’s fascinating to watch it come to life.
